The Alsace vineyard and the Piedmont Vosges on the EuroVelo Route 5 in 3 steps - Strasbourg

A great experience, the discovery of the magnificent Vineyard and the Road of Alsace wines with every stage a beautiful foray into the Piedmont Vosgien! You can discover rich tourist and cultural heritage of the region with all of its beautiful villages Obernai , Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé and of course Eguisheim, and at the same time, you will have the opportunity to climb a few beautiful and bucolic sides of the Vosgien Piedmont as the Mont Saint Odile or the "Haut-Koenigsbourg"! The beautiful journey ends at Colmar, Alsace wine capital with its beautiful historic centre.

Colmar is located in the centre of Alsace is a essential step due to the richness and variety of its historical and architectural heritage. Do not miss to visit the "Maison des Têtes" erected at the beginning of the 17 th century, the Alsatian "Petite Venise" or the Unterlinden Museum which has been beautifully restored.

You can reach Strasbourg your city of departure in comfort by train with our partner SNCF the same day, or the next day if you want to quietly visit the lovely town of Colmar.

We propose to you this holiday self-guided with the GPX tracks that we will provide you,  or guided Tour with from 6 people, or custom. The distance of this circuit can be increased - even substantially - on request

This trip is suitable for cyclists who appreciate and have the habit of training , but can also be done in E Bike  by the nature lovers who are less trained.

 

STAGE 1 : Strasbourg - Obernai

We start this nice first stage by a bucolic detour at the heart of the Alsatian capital and its heritage: Cathedral, Little France a lot of picturesque alleys.

We offer you to take the direction of the South and join the bike road of the Bruche canal. Your route follows the banks shaded this waterway which rallied the foothills of the Vosges and the Véloroute of the vineyard. Your itinerary leads then to Molsheim birthplace of the Bugatti to join brand the Eurovelo 5 Via Romea Francigena also named Véloroute of the vineyard on this section.

Before coming to Rosheim, we leave the EV5 to explore the foothills of the Vosges and the bucolic village of Rosenwiller, and a pretty climb at about of elevation.

For this step, your arrival point will be  Obernai and its beautiful place of the belfry. However your way you will be allowed to visit Rosheim and its Romanesque church St. Peter and Paul if you wish.

STAGE 2 : Obernai - Saint Hippolyte

A superb stage starting from Obernai! Before discovering the flowery villages that punctuate the Alsatian vineyard, you leave somewhat the EV5 to direct you to one of the most visited mountains of Alsace, the Mont Saint Odile, one nice climb of approximately 6 km and 7% of average slope. You will discover landscapes and enjoy beautiful views!

After this foray into the mountains, you will find the EV5 and enjoy the cultural heritage and environmental of Alsace. Whatever the season of your stay, you can marvel at the richness of the heritage which take place under your eyes, the bike riding will allow you to appreciate all the details.

Charming small colourful villages follow one another, important sites too: Dambach-la-ville and the fortified, Orschwiller to the foot of the "Haut-Koenigsbourg", just before reaching Saint Hippolyte which is the border between the "Bas-Rhin" and the "Haut-Rhin" and which will also be your finish city of this second stage.

STAGE 3 : Saint Hippolyte - Colmar

A last stage of beauty which begins with a visit to the tourist site most visited of Alsace, the majestic The top Koenigsbourg Castle! A very pretty ascent of 6 km to approx 6% difference in height, but you will agree, it is well worth the visit! On the EV5 return by the pretty village of Thannenkirch Coast before going down to Bergheim and to find the EV5 and the shimmering Véloroute of the vineyard.  You can admire all these small villages that adorn the Wine Route including the tourist Riquewihr or Ribeauvillé. Thus the Véloroute EV 5 road leads you to Eguisheimpreferred the French village and then finally to Colmar, Alsace wine capital.
