BL478 - Around and About the Rhine - Strasbourg

This itinerary offers you a kaleidoscope of landscapes: from the Malraux Promontory to the European Institutions and the Neustadt, not forgetting Orangerie and Pourtalès Parks and the suburbs of Strasbourg. And why not take a break and stretch your legs at Ballastière lakeside beach in Bischheim! Leave from Parc de l’Étoile and follow the Fort Trail to Château de Pourtalès for 6.5 km. Pass in front of the Château to the left and continue straight on to Buissière Farm. At the farm, turn right immediately and enter into La Robertsau nature reserve. Continue for 450 m until the next crossroads. Turn left. Continue for 900 m. Turn right at the crossroads. After 400 m, turn left and take the cycle path to La Wantzenau. Follow the signs to “La Wantzenau Centre” and cross over the bridge. Just after the bridge, follow the path on the right which bends round onto the riverbank. Cycle along the River Ill for 1.2 km. Then follow the Fort Trail to Souffelweyersheim port. At the end of Rue du Ried, take the path on your left towards Hoenheim and follow the sign indicating “Gare de Hoenheim”. Cycle along the Marne-Rhine Canal for 4.7 km to Rose Blanche bridge. After the bridge, turn right straightaway and cycle along the bank opposite the Parliament. Cross the Ducrot passageway to reach the right hand bank and cycle along the River Ill until you get to St. Paul’s church. Go onto Quai Koch via Auvergne bridge. Turn right down Avenue de la Marseillaise then left to cross over Passerelle des Juifs footbridge. Turn right onto Quai Lezay-Marnesia, and then left past the National Opera House. On your right, take Rue de la Comédie then Rue des Charpentiers and then Rue du Faisan. Turn right into Rue des Frères and then left into Rue des Ecrivains. Briefly take Quai au Sable and cross Sainte Madeleine bridge. Turn right then left into Rue Sainte-Madeleine. Continue along this street and then turn right into Place des Orphelins, Petite rue d’Austerlitz and Place d’Austerlitz. Finally, turn left into Rue de la Brigade Alsace-Lorraine and back to Parc de l’Étoile.
