Musée de l'Ambulance Alpine - Mittlach

French Military Hospital, the Ambulance Alpine treated soldiers and civilians from 1915 to 1918. Now restored, it has become an interpretive center of war in the valley. Opening Date: 11th July 2015

Mittlach only village in the valley of Munster returned and remained French from April 21th 1915 became a French base a few miles away from the front. From June 15th to 21th 1915, the Battle of Metzeral devastated the whole back part of the valley before the front settled down between the towns of Metzeral and Muhlbach. In July 1915, the townhall had been transformed into a first aid station after the walls of the basement had been reinforced. Ambulance Alpine welcomes both military and civilian casualties and serves as a propaganda tool for the health service of armies. Despite the reduction in the intensity of fighting, it was used throughout the war. Now restored, it is allied to an interpretation center and a trail of memory themed on “the impact of war on the people”.
