The museum of local traditions

Dominated by the beautiful forest of the Vosges Mountains, the quaint little town of Neuviller-la-Roche is very picturesque, with its houses clinging to the hillside, its narrow streets, its elegant church steeple, symbolic of the life of the community. But it is rather far from the main freeways. So why create a museum there? The impulse was given by a visit to the Museum of the Cévennes in Saint-Jean-du-Gard.
A team of enthusiasts was constituted and the Association for the Protection of our local Heritage was created in 1985. The rehabilitation of a building made available by the town and the collection of objects (implements, machines, utensils representing the various trades) took four long years. The volunteers were rewarded for their hard labor when the Museum was inaugurated in 1989.
