What is

Alsace à vélo ?

With 2,500 km of cycling routes and 2 million cyclists, Alsace, the only department in France crossed by three routes of the European EuroVelo network, is the leading cycling destination in France. This success is largely due to all the attention given to it by the Alsace à Vélo collective.

A collective dedicated to the destination

Alsace à Vélo is a collective established in 2010 with the aim of developing cycling tourism and turning Alsace into a paradise for cyclists!

Since 2012, the Alsace à Vélo collective has been working towards the development of the Alsace cycling tourism offering with the following objectives:

  • Improving the quality of tourist offerings by creating diverse routes that traverse the most beautiful landscapes and sites in Alsace.
  • Quality management, focusing on both hospitality and services provided to customers.
  • Sharing a brand strategy and a common working dynamic on a regional scale.

A strategic dynamic.

The Alsace à Vélo collective is implementing a multi-year action plan, the result of collaboration between the European Collectivity of Alsace, the Grand Est region, and the Alsace urban communities. Four priority areas are being developed:

  • Infrastructure (development, management, and signposting of cycling routes),
  • Services (promotion of intermodality, qualification of accommodations, catering, bike rentals, etc.),
  • Communication and promotion (to raise awareness of the destination in France and abroad),
  • Evaluation (analysis and dissemination of results collected through various tools and studies).

Concrete Actions

Thanks to this comprehensive plan, the Alsace à Vélo collective has undertaken significant actions, whether it be in developing infrastructure, implementing services, evaluating, or structuring the offering.

As a result, Alsace à Vélo has conceived and created around fifty local loops starting from the EuroVelo routes, as well as about thirty regional loops and Tours of Alsace. More recently, Alsace à Vélo has supported a project aimed at enhancing the user experience on the Canal de la Bruche bike path by installing facilities and rest areas that highlight the heritage. This initiative has turned the bike path into a true laboratory for best practices!
