Pottery Museum

" Enter this traditional Alsatian house and discover a rich collection of pottery typical of the town of Betschdorf. "

The manufacture of salt stoneware pottery is an age-old tradition in the region. In the 18th century, potters from Westerwald settled in Betschdorf bringing with them their technique of pottery vitrified with salt and coloured with cobalt blue. Since then, the village of Betschdorf has become the capital of "grey and blue" pottery. Set up in a beautiful half-timbered house, the Pottery Museum presents this craftwork through collections made in Betschdorf, but also coming from other areas in Alsace and the Rhineland. Production samples from the Middle Ages to the 17th century, splendid decorative pieces from the 18th and 19th centuries and pottery art and contemporary ceramics give a broad idea of the extraordinary panorama of this activity throughout the centuries.
