Elevation 11 m

The Val d'Argent cycle route follows the route of the old Sélestat/Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines railway, in operation from 1864 to 1980. During your ride, you will pass through two villages in the Val d'Argent, Sainte-Croix-aux-Mines and Lièpvre. You will enjoy a particularly rich fauna and flora. When the season permits, stop for a few moments to observe the bees coming and going from their hives. Keep your eyes peeled for deer and hinds. In the distance, you can see the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle, whose dungeon watches over the plain and the Alsatian valleys. Sainte-Marie aux Mines is famous for its European Patchwork Fair and its annual international mineral & fossil fair. The route was awarded the Vélo&Fromage label in 2018 and and there are numerous farms and farmers' markets along the way. It is possible for the more athletic to to continue for 12 kilometres in the mountains, towards the Col du Bonhomme.
