Heitersheim parking lot (Villa Urbana Roman Museum, Order of Malta Museum) - Route: Fessenheim (Hardt museum, Maison Schoelcher, old forge) - Bantzenheim - Chalampé Bridge/Neuenburg am Rhein - Neuenburg am Rhein (town history museum) - Müllheim (Markgräflerland museum) Quality: sandy and tarmac tracks, road Heitersheim, with its Roman villa, the "Villa Urbana", dating from the 3rd/4th century AD, is the starting point. The Roman Museum has been designed around the central remains of the dwelling house. Your route then takes you along the Sulzbach through Heitersheim and on to Eschbach and Bremgarten, not forgetting a short detour to Hartheim, past the Weinstetter Hof (first documented in 896) before rejoining the Rhine. Cross the Rhine via the new bridge built in 2006 and the lock to Fessenheim, where the Hardt Museum, the Maison Schoelcher and the old forge await you. The museum tells the story of the Hardt and the Schoelcher family. Victor Schoelcher was a defender of human rights and the author of the decree of April 27, 1848 abolishing slavery. From Fessenheim, head south via Chalampé and the Rhine bridge to Neuenburg am Rhein and its Museum für Stadtgeschichte, which provides impressive evidence of the history of this town, founded in 1175 by the Zähringens. After a break on the Mediterranean-style Rathausplatz (Town Hall Square), your route will take you to Müllheim and its Markgräfler Museum, housed in the Blankenhorn Palace. After this stopover, you return to Heitersheim via Buggingen.
