Villé Valley cycle route

Distance 17 km
Difficulty Family practice
Elevation 6 m

From Sélestat to Villé, the route follows the old salt road that led from Lorraine to Germany. The medieval town of Sélestat is located at the crossroads of the two Rhine departments on the Strasbourg-Colmar-Mulhouse-Basel railway line and is home to remarkable sites: the Humanist Library (UNESCO), the Church of Sainte-Foy, the Commanderie Saint-Jean or even the Witches' Tower and the Ebersmunster residence. The route crosses the Véloroute du vignoble d'Alsace - EuroVelo 5 in Scherwiller, the capital of Riesling. Nearby, the ruins of Ortenbourg Castle rise out of the mountain. The entrance to the Val de Villé, coloured by a mosaic of castles, opens onto a landscape of orchards that gradually give way to wooded slopes. At the confluence of the Steige and Urbeis valleys lies the lively town of Villé, the destination of the route. The town is the capital of cherry liqueur, the production of which is still an important industry in the region, not to mention the numerous quince, raspberry and mirabelle liqueurs.... which also enjoy a good reputation.
